Learn from Corax: Why is today bank transfer day?

One of my favorite people, Corax, has a quality essay explaining the history of Guy Fawkes day. This is highly educational and I encourage you to take a look and use it to help any occupiers you may know craft a strategy or goal-they could use one.

Mr. Blackswan Goes to Zuccotti Park

Quick post to share this very informative video from Bloomberg at Farnam Street Blog.  Despite my goofy title implying otherwise,  I think Mr. Blackswan is prudently circumspect about the occupiers.

Still looking for a citation for the Roman engineer spending the night under the bridge. Will post this once someone finds it.

Scent of a Human Piranha

What does this title mean?
You will see at the end of this post. Also, Michael Lewis  has a new book out, Boomerang: Travels in the New Third World
out. Yes,  I know he didn't make up that phrase, Tom Wolfe
did

This post has something for everyone!
  • Latinists
  • Beauty/fragrance junkies
  • Finance buffs
  • Black swans
  • museum-goers
  • Ma and other persons who buy me perfumes or receive perfumes from me.
You will enjoy this post!

The Twist vs. The Pouf

The purpose of this post is to explain Operation Twist via a discussion of another innovation from the 60's, namely,  the pouf, bouffant or  beehive hairdo. While the goal with this hairdo is to puff up the hair,  the goal of Operation Twist is to flatten out  the yield curve so as to encourage spending and strengthen the dollar.

Original ECB Batmanning Video

This is a short post today to share a tidbit I saw concerning the soon-to-be released ECB Batmanning video (metaphorically speaking).  The discussion starts around 3 minutes, 10 seconds in.

What is this?  I am not talking about the one and only successful batmanning video, the Original Batmanning Video.

In case you hadn't heard, in the near future, the European Central Bank is going to try to make its very own Batmanning video.  I am referring to whatever the ECB will attempt in order to bring about an "orderly" default in Greece. This will more than likely play out like, well, a failed batmanning video-with European flair. I have no other unique insights on this issue.

What exactly, is the goal of this post? My purpose is to give this word a new meaning.

to batman: intransitive verb, to cause a chain reaction of defaults in the Eurozone.

Special Note to All Prospetive Batmanners: Today, @Linsbrothers said on twitter that they had a meeting with the Dean (dum, dum, dum!).  Hey ECB, learn from the Original Batman Boilers, don't batman!

UPDATE: Martin Wolf has an interesting and concise piece at FT outlining this queston: to batman or not to batman? You may need a free Financial Times online account to view this-it is worth it. Thanks to @Nouriel for linking this!

Boilers and the City

The purpose of this blogpost is to relate a beautiful pair of classic, stereotypical NYC experiences I had this evening:
a) seeing someone famous and  b) overhearing a revealing conversation on the subway train. If you don't care that Fashion's Night Out is Thursday, September 8th, you will probably not care about the next few paragraphs.
